FOUNDATION OF THE COMMUNITY

In 1949, 10 Italian sisters arrived in Quebec to bring the work of Sister Marie Clarac to Canada. In May 1954, inspired by the Marist Brothers and driven by her own faith and vitality, Sister Anselme Marie Parisotto, along with her fellow sisters, acquired two properties in Montreal-North, on Gouin Boulevard, for the purpose of creating a school. In the summer of 1954, they also established a summer camp. By the end of the year, the Community was staffed by 19 sisters. This marked the debut of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Mary in Canada. Today, the Sisters of Charity are more active than ever. Their work here includes running three nursing homes, set up by the Congregation in Montreal.
